ANNUAL FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY BOOK SALE

The next Friends of the Princeton Public Library Annual Book Sale will take place in Spring 2018.  Please check back for dates.

One of the top used book sales in the region, this year’s sale includes more than 10,000 books for all ages and across a wide variety of topics. Most books are priced between $1 and $3, with art books and special selections priced higher.

The event opens with a Preview Sale Friday from 10 a.m. to noon. A ticket for the Preview Sale is $10, but is free for Friends of the Library. Numbered tickets will be available at the door starting at 8 a.m. Customers enter the sale in numerical order. Barcode scanners will be permitted at the tables, but collecting books to scan will not be allowed.

Starting at noon, admission to the book sale is free for the remainder of the sale. Hours are noon-8:30 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

The sale includes an excellent selection of literary classics, fiction, mysteries, art, science and math, history and politics, as well as of children’s and many other categories. Buyers will also find books in a variety of world languages for all ages, numerous cookbooks, travel books, plus old and unusual books, including many wonderful vintage children’s books.

 

Special items at this year’s sale include:

 

  •  A stunning “Henri Matisse : Catalogue Raisonné de L’œuvre Gravé,”  published in 1983
  • A complete set of the “Encyclopaedia Britannica” 11th Edition Handy Volume, published in 1911
  • A 1946 first American edition of “Animal Farm,” from Eleanor Roosevelt’s Hyde Park library, with her initials on the binding, and a beautiful bookplate
  • Dave Eggers’ novel “What is What. The Autobiography of Valentino Achak Deng,” signed by both Eggers and Deng
  • “Cycle of the Werewolf” and “Silver Bullet,” both signed by Stephen King
  • A sought-after first edition of the children’s classic, “The Phantom Tollbooth,”
  • A first American edition of “Watership Down, ” signed by Richard Adams
  • Three volumes of “The Correspondence of Jonathan Swift,” edited by D.D. Wooley
  • The first volume of “The Stuarts” by J.J. Foster, a signed, limited edition from 1902, with beautiful engravings
  • Several signed first editions from John McPhee
  • An eclectic collection of books from Freeman Dyson’s library

 

The library is in the Sands Library Building at 65 Witherspoon St. in Princeton, NJ. Award Winning Book Sale

The Friends of the Princeton Public Library operate a used bookstore in the library which is open during library hours. The store is stocked with books covering a wide range of topics and interests, with new titles being added daily. If you are looking for a beach read or that rare, out-of-print title be sure to check out the bookstore for reasonably priced books.

In addition to the ongoing sale in the bookstore, the Friends host an Annual Book Sale, featuring rare and unusual titles, as well as a vast selection of books in all categories. The 2017 Annual Book Sale is scheduled for Friday June 23 and Saturday June 24.

All book sale proceeds go directly to the library for the purchase of books and materials, as well as the support of library programs.


Book Donations

Used Book Donation Guidelines

We accept:

  • Hardcover & paperback books in good condition for resale
  • Audiobooks on CD, DVDs, & music on CD

We cannot accept:

  • Badly worn, marked up, stained, musty or moldy items
  • Magazines
  • Encyclopedias
  • VHS tapes, cassette tapes, computer games, vinyl records
  • Computer, business, finance, self-help, or medical books more than 5 years old
  • Travel guides more than 3 years old

Please pack items in sturdy bags or boxes, or bundle & tie with string.

Donations are accepted whenever the library is open. They can be received at the back door on Sylvia Beach Way.
