Adult Volunteers for Shelving
Assist library staff and enhance the library’s service to the public by organizing and maintaining the shelves.
Required Tasks
- Shelving materials – sort and shelve materials neatly and accurately, maintain shelf order.
- Shelf reading – verify that the collection is in the correct order, assist in searching for lost or misplaced items.
- Reviewing materials – check labels and condition of items that may need repair or replacement.
- Materials cleaning- lightly clean materials, identify damage or missing materials.
Required Skills
- Good organization skills, attention to detail
- General knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System is helpful
- Knowledge of languages other than English is a plus
- Ability to lift, bend and stand
- A friendly and approachable manner
Additional Requirements:
- Volunteers are asked to make a bi-weekly commitment of 1-2 hours for a period of at least three months
- Adult volunteers must undergo a background check
