Adult Volunteers for Shelving

Assist library staff and enhance the library’s service to the public by organizing and maintaining the shelves.

Required Tasks
  • Shelving materials – sort and shelve materials neatly and accurately, maintain shelf order.
  • Shelf reading – verify that the collection is in the correct order, assist in searching for lost or misplaced items.
  • Reviewing materials – check labels and condition of items that may need repair or replacement.
  • Materials cleaning- lightly clean materials, identify damage or missing materials.
Required Skills
  • Good organization skills, attention to detail
  • General knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System is helpful
  • Knowledge of languages other than English is a plus
  • Ability to lift, bend and stand
  • A friendly and approachable manner
Additional Requirements:
  • Volunteers are asked to make a minimum commitment of 1-2 hours bi-weekly, for a period of at least three months
  • Adult volunteering opportunities require a background check (paid for by the library)

Adult Volunteers for F&F Bookstore and Events

The Friends and Foundation of Princeton Public Library welcomes new volunteers to become involved in their activities. Opportunities include working on the Beyond Words Annual Benefit, and Evenings with Friends.

We are fortunate to have dedicated volunteers who contribute their time, talent and energy to the library for a variety of long-term and short-term tasks.
