A 3 week class to help novice computer users become comfortable with the basic terminology, equipment and concepts of computing.  Participants will learn how to effectively execute basic tasks using a computer.  This hands-on session will emphasize mouse manipulation and software. An excellent primer for the more advanced computer classes.

School for Scanning

Learn the basics of scanning photos and documents and saving them in an appropriate format to a CD or USB flash drive.  Simple manipulation techniques that can enhance photos will be covered.  Each participant should bring 4-6 photographs and a blank CD or USB flash drive to class (CDs can be purchased in class).

A new form of online publishing, RSS (Rich Site Summary) is a means of delivering regularly changing web media content that is simplifying the lives of many Internet users. News sites, media companies, weblogs and other online sites have been offering their services as an RSS Feed to enhance the online experience. RSS allows you to easily stay up-to-date by retrieving the latest content from the sites you are interested in without having to visit each site individually. This class will introduce how RSS works and the various websites that offer this cutting edge technology.

   

Photo Editing Bootcamp

In this class we'll tackle some of the most nagging problems of digital photos such as: Cropping & Resizing, Red Eye Removal and Cosmetic Retouching. You will work hands on with real digital photos using Adobe Photoshop 7.0. .

 

Podcasting 101

Podcasting is a hot trend in Internet Media that allows audio and video to be published via the Web while allowing the publisher to control the look, feel and delivery of the content. This 2 week introductory class on Blogs (interactive, personal websites that can easily be updated daily with news, commentary, or your own private thoughts) will be led by PPL's own blogging librarian Janie Hermann.  Blogs give everyone with Internet access the opportunity to become an online writer and editor.  This will be a hands-on class where participants will learn the basics of bloggin and have a chance to create their own blog on free and easy-to-use software that is available on the Internet.  Basic PC skills, a valid email address and the ability to type are required.
