HiTOPS is a 20-year-old nonprofit organization located in Mercer

County, NJ, whose mission is to promote adolescent health and

well-being. It helps adolescents clarify their values and make

responsible decisions regarding their health and actions, and

gives parents, teachers, and caregivers of adolescents the tools

they need to best support and guide the young people they

nurture. All servies are confidential and fees are on a sliding

scale. Donations are welcome.

PROGRAMS

Teen Council:  Group of 20 high school seniors who undergo

extensive training to become effective peer sexual health

educators in their schools and communities. Students selected

for the Teen Council receive more than 140 hours of training in

human sexuality, presentation skills, group facilitation,

communication and negotiation skills, and interactive

educational techniques.

First and Third:  A support program for gay, lesbian, bi-sexual,

transgendered and questioning youth. It meets on first and

third Saturdays of the month.

Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbian and Gays (PFLAG)

Support Group for parents and friends of gay, lesbian, bisexual

and transgendered youth.  Meets on the second Monday of the

Month.  Call 609-683-5155, x217 for meeting location and topics.

Sexual Assault Survivor Support (SASS): A program for young

women who have experienced sexual assault. The purpose of

SASS is to provide a safe place for conversation, reflection and

support through a group connection for young women sharing

a similar experience. SASS is not a professional therapy group

but provides survivors with the support they need to feel less

isolated and afraid while helping them to become stronger. The

group runs in 8-10 week cycles and meets at HiTOPS on

Thursday evenings. Contact HiTOPS for start dates.

iQuit: This is HiTOPS' comprehensive, accessible, technology-

based smoking cessation treatment program based on current

research in tobacco dependence treatment. The program

particularly addresses 18- to 24-year-old smokers who are

interested in quitting smoking. The program consists of

podcasts, text messaging and e-mail access to the Nurse

Practitioner (NP) who is a tobacco-dependence treatment

specialist for individualized counseling. Each podcast presents

one of six smoking cessation topics. Clients using the program

may also opt to receive a text message each day for 30 days

as added support. If they have additional questions, they will

be able to e-mail the smoking cessation NP for personalized

counseling.
