DESCRIPTION

A coeducational, college preparatory school enrolling  545

boarders and 255 day students in grades 9-PG.  Set on a 700-

acre campus that is listed in the National Register of Historic

Places; the School offers more than 300 courses in 11

disciplines, including a full complement of Advanced Placement

courses.  A distinguishing feature is the House system;

students live in Houses of approximately 30 residents.  House

identity is maintained through separate dining rooms in the

dining center and athletic teams that compete intramurally.

Each house has its own student government and traditions, and

as students move through the different levels, they assume

increased responsibility for management of themselves and their

house.  The conference table teaching style allows for

approximately a dozen students, along with the instructor, to

sit around an oval table, thus challenging students to be

prepared and to participate in the discussion.  Numerous clubs

and organizations provide activities such as publications, the

arts, outdoor education, and debate.  The School fields

interscholastic and intramural teams and offers a lifetime sports program.
