DESCRIPTION

A civic committee created in late 1997 to annually present a

Memorial Day parade and 4th of July fireworks, Flag Day and Veterans Day

because the parade and fireworks had ceased after 1995.  In

order to insure future parades and fireworks, the self-

perpetuating committee has representatives of the Princeton

Borough Council, Princeton Township Committee, Princeton

YMCA, Princeton Rotary, Princeton University, Princeton

Recreation, Princeton Borough Merchants Association, Knights

of Columbus, as well as other community active citizens.  In

order to have financial visibility to underwrite annual costs, the

Princeton Area Community Foundation accepts deductible gifts

for the Spirit of Princeton and handles such funds in an

endowment portfolio, handled by the Princeton Area Community

Foundation.  As of March 1, 2008 approximately $285,000 was in

the endowment including proceeds from the completed 20th

Century Recognition Walk in Palmer Square.
