One Princeton; inactive as of 1997
DESCRIPTION
A grassroots group of concerned citizens of Princeton Borough
and Princeton Township whose goal was the consolidation of the
two municipalities into One Princeton. The group stressed
those factors that already unite us: a common commitment to
protect the downtown, which anchors both communities and the
open space that enriches all; the fact that with 17 already-
consolidated agencies, there is little that still divides the two municipalities.
Based on the careful research of the Consolidation Study
Commission, as well as statements made by both Mayors, One
Princeton considered the finances of the Borough to be fragile,
and that the future health of the Borough was at risk without
consolidation. With consolidation, the group asserted, could
come improved municipal services at less cost, more effective
local government, better use of volunteers, community-wide
decisions on using open space, and more effective finanancial
protection of the downtown.
