DESCRIPTION

A 100-year-old private non-profit organization providing

adventure-based learning at its 273-acre campus in

northwestern New Jersey. Thousands of underserved youth

from Newark, Tenton, Camden, New York City and Philadelphia

have spent summer weeks in challenging, rewarding programs

that foster emotional growth, conducted by highly trained,

dedicated instructors.  The principal components of program

development and delivery are a combination of social and

emotiona learning and experiential education. There are five core

groups of competencies: self-awareness, self-management,

social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision making.

PROGRAMS

Multi-Year Programs: 3- to 6-year commitments with the same

cohort of urban youth between the ages of 11 and 18.

Year-round Delivery of Learning Experiences in the classroom,

the community and Blaristown-based campus.

Balanced multiple education models incorporating the SAFE

curriculum, cooperative learning (use of small groups of 10 or

fewer), and differentiated instruction.

Full-scale support for deep partnerships including

administration, teacher involvement and parent/guardian

participation

Systematic Evaluation to measure the efficacy of the programs
