DESCRIPTION
A national institution, based in Princeton, which is the largest
philanthropy in the nation devoted exclusively to health and
health care. The Foundation prioritizes its grants into four goal
areas: to assure that all Americans have access to quality health
care at reasonable cost; to improve the quality of care and
support for people with chronic health conditions; to promote
healthy communities and lifestyles; and to reduce the personal,
social and economic harm caused by substance abuse - tobacco,
alcohol and illicit drugs. The Foundation was created by the late
Robert Wood Johnson, who built the family firm Johnson &
Johnson. He endowed the Foundation with a $1.2 billion bequest
from his personal fortune.
