DESCRIPTION
The Drumthwacket Foundation acts as curator and preserver of
the official residence of the governor of New Jersey. Using
membership dollars and donated funds, the house is furnished
with period antiques, the gardens have been restored, and the
original farmhouse on the property, The Olden House, is open to
the public as well. Thousands of New Jersey's citizens and
school children visit Drumthwacket each year to learn about the
Revolutionary and Civil War histories of the site, the
architectural features of the house and grounds, the prominent
families who owned the house, and how the house is used by
the sitting governor. The Foundation is independent of state
government and has no association with any political party. It is
a charitable 501(c)(3) foundation. Capital and operating funds
are sustained wholly by private donations, grants and memberships.
PROGRAMS
Discover Drumthwacket is a fourth-grade field trip experience
that combines the excitement of an on-site tour with classroom
activities. Based on New Jersey state curriculum standards,
other grades can adapt the curriculum to their level.
