DESCRIPTION

Educational program sponsored by Mercer County, Rutgers

University and the U.S. Department of Agriculture which

provides agents and consultants to assist Mercer County

residents on issues of farming, gardening, nutrition, home

financial management and home economics, and youth

education and development. 

PROGRAMS

Horticultural Program:  A program which provides consultation

to county residents and professionals on gardening problems.

Gardeners (see separate listing) offers volunteers to assist

residents with gardening issues.

Family and Community Health Sciences:  A program which

provides consultation and classes on a variety of home

economy issues and nutrition.  Call Susan Fountain; 609-989-6385.

Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP):  A

program which provides consultation and classes specifically on

nutritional issues.  Call  Susan Fountain; 609-989-6835.

Business and Marketing Development: Aimed at helping small

and medium size agriculture and food-related businesses that

wish to improve or expand business operations, RCE offers

one-on-one advice in several areas of marketing, including, but

not limited to: distribution, sales, product improvement,

customer service, promotion and business development. Call

Agr. Zamorano, Jhilson Ortiz, Senior Program Coordinator for

Agricultural Marketing.

4-H Youth Development:  The county extension of a national

organization for youth ages 9 - 19.  Volunteer adult and junior

leaders guide the program with the help of the U.S.

Department of Agriculture.  It assists youth in acquiring

knowledge, developing life skills and forming attitudes that will

enable them to become self-directed, contributing members of

Home Compost Demonstration Site and Gardens:  A resource

developed to teach county residents about the ease and

economy of home composting.  The site has more than 20

different bins on display for homeowners to view and decide

which will work best for them.  It is located at the Mercer

County Equestrian Center, 431A Federal City Road, Pennington.
