DESCRIPTION

Westminster Conservatory is the community music school of

Westminster Choir College of Rider University, which provides

private and group instruction and musical activities for persons

of all ages and levels of advancement. Extension programs are

offered in Lawrenceville,  Princeton Academy, South Brunswick

and Yardley, PA.  The school is accredited by the National Guild

of Community Schools of the Arts. For more detailed program

PROGRAMS

Early Childhood Classes:  Program of music learning and

enjoyment that nurtures the total development of the child. 

For children ages 6 months-9 years. 

Young Artist Program:  Course of study for more serious

students which includes private lessons, theory and ear

training, master classes, ensemble classes, music history and

literature classes and semester recitals.  Auditions are required.

CHOIRS: 1) Concino Choir:  Group open by audition to children

grades 4-5 which strives to maintain the highest artistic

standards in children's choral music and is dedicated to building

good musicianship.  It performs regularly and has appeared

with orchestra and made recordings.  Yvonne Macdonald,

Conductor. 2) Choral Readiness: Focuses on music-making

appropriate for children ages 5-7. Comprised of both

experienced and inexperienced singers. 3) Schola Choir: Grades

 2-3. A training choir for the Concino choir. Develops sight-

reading skills and part singing. Auditions and interview required

4) Cantus Choir: Middle school honors choir; performs

frequently at Westminster Choir College and in Princeton

community Auditions and interview required. 5) Conservatory

Youth Chorale: Grades 9-12. Honors choir for high school

students. Performs challenging choral literautre of various

styles, periods and genres. Concerts each semester. Audition required.

Community Performances:  Musical performances and

lecture/demonstrations presented for schools, tailored to the

age of the class or group. 

ADULT GROUPS: 1) Westminster Community Chorus:  Open to

amateur singers from beginning to advanced. Weekly

rehearsals, 2-3 performances per year. 2) Community Chamber

Choir:  Music for smaller groups - motets, madrigals, etc. Prior

choral experience and sight reading ability required. 3)

Westminster Community Orchestra (WCO):  See separate entry.

Music Theater: In three groups, broken down by age,

participants are instructed in the many aspects of stage

performance including improvisation, audition preparation, solo

vocal performance and choreography. Theatrical Workshops by

Westminster faculty and stage productions are incorporated

into the program.
