DESCRIPTION

A non-profit organization serving more than 17,000 girls and

adults from 34 local municipalities, which provides a program of

fun, informal education and community service for girls ages 5-

17.  Activities focus on contemporary issues of interest to girls,

and provide opportunities to develop leadership skills; girls can

participate as part of a group or through individual study.

PROGRAMS

Program activities are geared to the age of each child, and

include community service, environmental studies, personal

growth and development, career exploration, arts and crafts,

badge and patch programs and outdoor training.

Programs which introduce Girl Scouting to African-American or

Hispanic girls from Trenton.

Adopt-a-Camper:  Annual campaign in which local residents

pledge and donate money to send a disadvantged girl to Oak

Spring Day Camp, Franklin Township, for a week in the summer.

City Force 2000:  Program of mentoring, career exploration,

field trips and other activities which expose girls to positive role

 models in the fields of math and science.  Collaboration

between Girl Scouts, New Brunswick Board of Education, and

Women in Math, Science and Engineering Project- Douglass College.

New Leaf Environmental Education Center:  Program at the

Council's 140-acre property, consisting of indoor and outdoor

activities which focus on a variety of environmental topics.

The Girl Scout Alumni Network:  Organization for former Girl

Scouts or Girl Guides, leaders and parents living in Mercer or

Middlesex counties which provides opportunities to meet new

people and explore areas of mutual interest.  Events have

included a camp picnic and tour, flag ceremony and activities

with Girl Scouts.
