DESCRIPTION

A county government agency that works to attract business to

the Mercer County area.  It also assists the Mercer County

business community in the development of statistical

information.  It maintains county-wide listings of land, buildings

and demographics, and promotes the county as an attractive

place to live, work and play.

PROGRAMS

Economic Opportunity: assists small women-owned

and minority businesses through technical assistance, lending

and networking opportunities. Small business loans between

$25,000 and $100,000 are made available through a

consortium of financial lenders.

Housing and Community Development (HCD): plans and

administers the Mercer County Affordable Housing Program

(MCAHP) and prepares and administers Federal and State

Affordable Housing grants and programs including Energy

Conservation, Heater Improvement, Helping Hands for Seniors,

Community Housing Development Organization.

Mercer County One Stop Career Center: coordinates Workforce

Investment Act (WIA) programs to provide quality services to

residents in preparation for entry or re-entry into the workforce

 and to employers seeking qualified workers. Services such as

career assessment, resume writing, interviewing skills, and job

search assistance are provided for job seekers.

Foreign Trade Zone: Designation of Mercer County Airport as a General

Purpose Foreign Trade Zone allows Mercer County to join approximately

185 other U.S. communities in meeting the opportunities offered by

the new global economy. Advantages for Mercer County businesses include:

warehousing imported goods which defers duty and improves cash flow; no US

duty assessed when re-importing goods from the zone to foreign countries;

processing, inspecting and testing goods within the zone can reduce duties;

lower insurance costs.
