DESCRIPTION
A state government agency, administered by the New Jersey
Department of Health and Senior Services, which deals with the
various health problems of children, adolescents and adults in
New Jersey through an array of programs which are funded with
state and federal block grants. The three separate offices
(refer to programs) provide support for services such as health
screening, education, prevention and control measures.
PROGRAMS
Maternal, Child and Community Health (MCCH): This program
administers federal funding support and technical assistance for
the provision of preventive and primary health care services
related to maternal, child and community health for New Jersey
citizens. It also regulates seven MCH consortia, and monitors
eight Healthy Mothers/Healthy Babies (HM/HB) coalitions
throughout the state, and provides services for lead poisoning

Special Child & Adult Health & Early Intervention Services: This
program assures that all persons with special health needs
have access to comprehensive, community based, culturally
competent and family centered care. It also maintains a Birth
Defects and Special Needs Registry and administers the Part C
of IDEA early intervention program for infants and toddlers

Women, Infants and Children Supplemental Food Program

Chronic Disease Prevention and Control: This program
administers the New Jersey Cancer Education and Early
Detection program providing screening for breast, cervical,
colorectal and prostate cancers, the asthma program and
diabetes program to educate and ensure access to appropriate

Office on Women's Health: Serves as an information and
resource center for women's health information and data, and
advocates for the implementation of effective strategies to
improve women's health. The office coordinates efforts with
other state departments whose services impact in this area, as
well as non-governmental providers and community
