DESCRIPTION
SHIP is a program for Medicare enrollees sponsored by the New
Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services and Division
of Senior Affairs, with major funding from the U.S. Department
of Health and Human Services' Health Care Financing
Administration. Counseling is provided on a confidential, one-
to-one basis by appointment. The counselors are carefully
selected, trained and certified volunteers. They are prepared to
assist Medicare enrollees in all aspects of health insurance
including, but not limited to: explaining Medicare; clarifying how
doctors charge; filing complaints when necessary; medigap-
individual policy or managed care; filing claims or appeals;
contacting doctors or hospitals to clarify bills. In Mercer County
SHIP is administered by the Information and Reference Unit,
Dept. of Health & Senior Services, Division of Senior Affairs.
Counselors are located at different locations throughout Mercer
County.
