DESCRIPTION

A non-profit agency staffed by professionally trained volunteers

which provides free telephone listening, information and referral

and crisis intervention services to the general public. Additional

services include Reassurance Contact, RSVP, Intergenerational

Breakfast Program, and Healthy Bones.

PROGRAMS

24-Hour HELPLINE:  A free program which provides trained

volunteers who offer active listening, help with information and

referral, telephone crisis intervention and suicide prevention.

SUICIDE HOTLINE: A free HOTLINE 1-800 SUICIDE (1-800-

784-2433), which provides trained volunteers who offer suicide

prevention and intervention to people of all ages. For more

information about the suicide hotline, please call the main office

(not the suicide hotline) at 609-883-2880.

Reassurance Contact:  A free telephone outreach service,

staffed by trained volunteers, which provides persons

in Mercer County, age 60 and older, who live alone and may be

homebound, a call each day at the same time to check

on the person's well-being and offer a few minutes of friendly

conversation.  If the person fails to answer, relatives, neighbors or friends

are alerted. In extreme cases, the police may be asked to check

if no one else is available.

RSVP: The Retired Senior Volunteer Program encourages

people who are 55 and older to volunteer in all segments of

society by offering special incentives including supplemental

insurance while volunteering, up to $15 a month for

transportation expenses to and from the volunteer location,

and a free annual recognition brunch.
