DESCRIPTION

A non-profit, volunteer organization which addresses the needs

of persons affected by Alzheimer's disease and their families in

Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex,

Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union

and Warren Counties through support, education, information

and referral, advocacy and research.   It is a local chapter of the

National Alzheimer's Association.

PROGRAMS

Princeton Support Group:  Professionally-run support and

information meetings for caregivers and family members of

Alzheimer's individuals.  Meets third SAT of the month, 2:00

PM, Woodlands Professional Building, 256 Bunn Dr.,  Princeton.

MedicAlert (R) +Alzheimer's Association Safe Return (R): a 24-

hour nationwide emergency response service for individuals

with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia who wander or

who have a medical emergency. The registration fee includes an

 identification bracelet, personalized emergency wallet card and

a national database the includs the membeer's photo and

emergency contact information to help reunite the lost person

with his or her caregivers.

Respite Care Program: Respite Care Program: provides

caregivers with professional counsel about the importance of

maintaining their own physical and emotional health; information

about the variety of respite service providers, such as adult

day care and home health assistance, and how to access these

services. Caregivers also are assisted in deciding which respite

program may best meet their individual needs. In addition,

through an application process, caregivers are eligible for

financial assistance of up to $1,000 to reimburse them for the

expenses of qualified respite services.

Learning Institute: offers a wide variety of education and

training programs for familiy and professional caregivers and

the general public. Programs include introductory information

about Alzheimer's disease, early warning signs, and how to

seek medical assistance for diagnoses. Specific and focused

training is offered related to caregiving and the legal, financial,

medical and supportive services that are needed by individuals

with Alzheimer's disease and their families.
