DESCRIPTION

Parent's Anonymous of NJ, Inc (PA) is a self-help organization

for parents.  PA provides parent-led, professionally facilitated

groups for parents, groups for fathers, mothers, grandparents,

teen parents, and adults abused as children.  Parents

Anonymous also provides childcare during group or a Children's

Program.  All support groups are confidential and meet weekly

for two hours.  A 24 hour Stressline is available for parents who

need to talk or would like information or a referral to other

services in their community.  The support groups and the

Stressline are primarily run by volunteers. Two additional offices

are located in Woodbury (856-686-0600) and Newark (973-353-0986).

PROGRAMS

Help a Parent, Save a Child Volunteer Service Program:

Comprehensive Volunteer opportunities, training, supervision

and continuing education provided.

HOPES (Healing Ourselves Physically, Emotionally, Spiritually)

Support Group:  A specialized PA group for adults who have

experienced the trauma of childhood abuse (members may or

may not be parents.)

Parent Support Groups: Free, professionally facilitated self-help

groups create an environment in which parents help each other

develop methods of coping with stress and learn alternative

methods of discipline. Groups are facilitated by volunteer

professionals, but are actually run by parent leaders. Groups

meet weekly throughout the state. A Children's Program (with

limited availability) may run concurrently with a PA Parent

Support Group and offers a structured play therapy and family

systems program.

Training for Professionals Program:  PA provides training

seminars to the professional community on issues of child

abuse, and neglect, i.e.,  Time Out for Parents Coping with

Anger, and Preventing Parent Burn-Out.

Family Helpline (1-800-THE-KIDS): The only 24-hour statewide

phone line dedicated to family issues. The line offers a place to

vent, information and referrals, and crisis intervention.

Parent Education and Workshops:  An educational program

utilizing printed materials and experiential workshops.
