PROGRAMS
Polio-Plus:a partnership of Rotary International with the Bill &
Melinda Gates Foundation that will inject a much-needed $200
million into the global campaign to eradicate polio. A top priority
since 1985, this effort is supported by the Princeton Rotary
Club through fundraising activities. To date, Rotary has
contributed $633 million to the eradication effort.
Interact Club: Introduces the concepts of service above self to
Princeton High School students between 14 and 18 years of
age. In addition, RCoP sponsors "Bridging the Gap," a program
that instructs students on how to prepare a business plan.
Rotarian volunteers mentor the students during the course of
the school term.
Literacy: Rotary Club of Princeton has shown its commitment to
literacy, joining the Rotary International effort to promote
literacy throughout the world with the following projects: 1)
RCoP Dictionary Project, in its 3rd year, distributed 254
dictionaries to 3rd-grade students locally; 2) Pre-School First
Library which supports three local multi-cultural day care
centers. Rotarian volunteers read to students aged 2 1/2 to 5
on a regular basis and each child is given a copy of the book
read to take home.
Care to Share: The Rotary Club of Princeton has completed its
3rd year on this project which turns manufacturer's coupons
into personal care gift bags. In 2007, this project distributed a
total of 148 gift bags to those in need locally. The project
received a "Significant Achievement Award' from Rotary International.
Argentina Project: In 2004, RCoP embarked on the project
"Your Children, Our Children". Phase I was funded by a
matching grant which provided just under $25,000 of
specialized equipment and supplies to treat and care for high-
risk, critical care newborn infants at the neonatal care unit in
Tucuman, Argentina. Phase II focused on providing equipment
to the Maternal Intensive Care Unit to reduce the mortality rate
of mothers and infants at the facility. Planning for Phase III is
currently under way.
Additional RCoP projects described on the website are:
TeenConnect, Community Works, Vocational Service Award,
Annual Fundraising Pancake Breakfast, and 9/11 Memorial
Blood Drive.
