No, I'm not referring to the things you use to keep your place in a book, but the magazine, Bookmarks. If you have not yet seen it, you have been missing out on some serious literary adoration.
"Hundreds of book reviews distilled and summarized in each issue."
Imagine a resource you can turn to to get a succinct critical summary of both fiction and non-fiction titles, accompanied with snippets of reviews from all of the major book reviewers, including NYTBR, Washington Post, LA Times, Christian Science Monitor, Cleveland Plain Dealer, etc. Not only that, but each issue features a book group profile, award winners, readers' recommendations, author profiles, and resources spanning the genres.
"I am beguilded by your physical beauty, and I am moved by how head-over-heels in love with books you are. And nowhere else have I found such thoughtful and literate reportage on the state of the American soul, as that soul makes itself known in the books we write." - Kurt Vonnegut (Bookmarks homepage)
Not just as a librarian, but as a reader, my passion for this periodical matches Mr. Vonnegut's. Seriously, if you like to read, you need to check out this magazine. You may find it in our magazine section on the second floor. Its website is also a fantastic resource. Use their Book Review Browser to search for book reviews using a variety of access points, including rating, genre, subgenre, and subjects and themes.
Puzzled over your next bedside, bookclub, or airplane read? Thumb through the pages of Bookmarks. You won't be disappointed!
