Nostalgic Hunger Pangs

blackwhite.gif
Growing up in the Bronx, each Sunday we would get Black & White cookies from the local bakery. Honestly, they never tasted that good, but they became a staple of my childhood. It was a pang of nostalgia (from my stomach) that led me to buy one at the local large java chain. Imagine the surprise when I bit into it and it tasted...good!
What foods do you remember fondly? The next time you're in the library, check out our regional cookbooks like Arthur Schwartz's New York City Food ; The Gift of Southern Cooking ; or The American Regional Cookbook .

Andre:

Love the photo! My list of nostalgia foods is way too long since I moved around a lot as a kid. Most of the list comes from my New Orleans days. I'd kill for a praline right now! :)
