When the Germans invaded France, Irene Nemirovsky, a Russian-born Jew, and author, was captured by the Nazis, and killed in Auschwitz. Her daughters smuggled her notebooks out of the country and, sixty years later discovered the partially written manuscript of what was conceived as a 5-part novel. Two of the sections were completed, and published in 2004 as the highly acclaimed Suite Francaise, a novel which portrays life in France as German forces prepare to invade Paris.
According to a story in today's NYT, another work, Chaleur du Sang, has been uncovered and will be published by Alfred A. Knopf this fall.
