Wireless Users

The Princeton Public Library is a wireless “hot spot”. Follow these easy steps to establish a wireless connection to the Internet.

Note: To access our system your laptop must have a wireless card.

  • Set your system up as “DHCP.” This will allow the library network to assign an IP address your computer.
  • If your system is not set up for DHCP: go to “network properties” on your settings menu, click on TCP/IP and click on DHCP.
  • If you have more recent software, it may have a wizard connection that will guide you through this.
  • When you turn your laptop on, the wireless card should detect a hotspot and our wireless network which is called “public library”
  • Your laptop should then connect to the network automatically.

Plug In Laptops

The Princeton Public Library also provides plug in ports for laptop users at many of our study tables.

To access the Internet from a data port follow these easy steps:

  • Users must supply their own Ethernet cable or borrow one from one of our service desks for a $5 deposit. Your $5 will be refunded on return of our cable.
  • Plug the cable into your laptop and into our port.
  • If you need power, plug your power cord into the electrical outlet located next to the port.
  • You should then get a network connection that allows them to use your own browser for web searching.
