ELIAS CONOVER.
Elias Conover, the good and faithful servant at the Princeton Theological Seminary for half a century, died on Sunday, July 25th, aged 86 years. This old colored man was born at Englishtown, N. J., and was a slave until he was 25 years old. For a time he lived in New York and then came to work for Dr. Woodhull, Princeton's prominent physician in those days, where he worked for eight years, from which place he went to the seminary. Elias was the oldest man about the institution and was widely known throughout this country. He was a great favorite of the large number of students who have been graduated from the seminary, many of whom are now scattered to all parts of the globe. He was the chorister in the colored Methodist church and one of its most faithful, active and devoted officers for many years. Two daughters survive him.

The Princeton Press, Sat., July 31, 1897:

Coroner Glenn was called this morning to view the body of an elderly colored man found in Stony Brook east of the Washington street bridge. The captain of a passing propeller on the canal first saw it and notified the bridge tender. The man's shoes and hat were on the bank, and it is supposed he went to sleep on the bank and rolled into the water, where the body has probably been for two or three days.
The man has been identified as David Rice, a man about 70 years, who lost his wife in Trenton fifteen years ago, and who has been wandering about the country ever since. The body will be interred at County expense in Trenton.
