DESCRIPTION
A non-profit organization which uses staff and an all-volunteer workforce of 1,000+ to meet the needs of homeless families temporarily sheltered in motels along the Route One Corridor. Its goal is the empowerment of those who need to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness.
SERVICES
Food/home delivered meals - Homeless adults and children
Emergency - Housing, food, furniture, appliances, household goods, clothing, transportation - Homeless adults and children
Self help/Support - Homeless adults
Recreational activities - Homeless children
Employment - Counseling, job skills development, placement - Homeless adults
Education - Tutoring, homework assistance, art classes - Homeless children
PROGRAMS
Tutoring: Four nights a week, after-school tutoring and enrichment programs are offered to children living in area welfare motels..
Homeless Outreach Project: Program in which a coordinator identifies and organizes the volunteer support of Mercer County churches and synagogues in helping to provide food and general support to homeless families.
Art Program: A cooperative program with the Arts Council of Princeton, which provides children from each of the homeless motels 1 1/2 hour art classes at the Arts Council every other week. The children are brought by bus. Call Anne Reeves at the Arts Council, 609-924-8777.
Ennis Beley Photo Project: A joint effort of Young Audiences of New Jersey and HomeFront which provides photography lessons for selected children from the homeless motels during the summer. Call Young Audiences at 609-683-7966.
Mercer Alliance to End Homelessness: An alliance of non-profit organizations, elected officials, government representatives and business leaders, headed by HomeFront, whose goal is to end homelessness permanently in Mercer County within the next 10 years.
