DESCRIPTION
From its founding by Richard Stockton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, to its use as the official New Jersey Governor's Mansion in the 20th Century, Morven has played a central role in the history of the United States. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1971 and today is owned by the state and administered by Historic Morven, Inc., a private non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of the site.
The new Morven Museum and Garden currently has six galleries on the first floor open with exhibits pertaining to Morven history and decorative arts from New Jersey public collections. Morven's historic garden includes a formal, grand lawn dotted with majestic trees, beds of heirloom annuals from the 18th and 19th century. The newly-renovated museum shop occupies the 19th-century wash house and courtyard and features many Morven and New Jersey specialties as well as choice pottery, jewelry, books, educational materials and much more. Free automobile parking is available on-site.
