DESCRIPTION
A nonprofit organization of professors, graduate students, and college administrators who are committed to rational discourse as the foundation of academic life in a free and democratic society. It encourages the formation of professional and disciplinary organizations sharing its educational purposes, offers assistance to student groups and their publications, organizes panels, conferences, and professional symposia, forms links with like-minded academics outside the U.S., and promotes studies documenting the state of academic life.

PROGRAMS
Research Center: Center which conducts studies of contemporary issues in higher education, publishes reports and policy statements, and serves as a depository for academic materials and documents.

Search Service: A service provided for NAS members and institutions seeking to fill vacant staff positions.
