DESCRIPTION
A not-for-profit community counseling and service agency whose purpose is to strengthen Jewish family life and to prevent the breakdown of the family. Provides confidential professional counseling on a non-sectarian basis to children and adults who live and/or work in the Greater Mercer County area. Trenton/Suburban and East Windsor branch offices. Fees are adjusted on a sliding scale, and no one is denied service because of inability to pay; Medicare Part B applicable.
SERVICES
Counseling Services: include counseling services for individuals, couples, families and groups experiencing personal problems including stress, depression, anxiety or other mental health issues and relationship problems including marital and parent-child conflicts, separation and divorce, or major personal transitions. Bi-cultural, bi-lingual (Spanish) support available.
Case Management Services: information and referral help, emergency and ongoing financial assistance; Food Pantry (temporry assistance with food); Food Vouchers (temporary assistance to obtain food); Resettlement Services to Jewish persons new to the United States seeking to settle here; Hebrew Free Loan
Prevention and Support Services: Family Life Education Groups; assistance with Jewish holiday celebrations; Project S.A.R.A.H. (domestic violence awareness and education); Project Re-Employment (seminars, consultation and guidance for recently unemployed persons looking for work); Gesher Le Kesher (peer education for teenagers).E
Elder Care Services: for Jewish older adults and their families, including counseling, case management, home visits, information and referrals and educational groups; Life Enrichment Programs; Kosher Cafe (nutrition site); Europa Club (group for Holocaust survivors)

The Kosher Cafe: Provides kosher nutrition in a social atmosphere at The Woodbrook House, 865 Lower Ferry Rd., Ewing, NJ 08628. Reservations required 24 hours in advance. Contact Barbara at 609-882-0717.

Family Life Education Groups:
'Aging in Place' NORC Program: The JFCS 'Aging in Place' program is centered in the Twin Rivers section of East Windsor. It is open to all individuals 60 years and above who live in East Windsor and Hightstown. The goal of this project is to provide the types of services older aduts need to continue living in their homes, rather than moving into alternative forms of adult housing. Home-delivered meals, health and wellness programs, information and referral, educational and recreational services are examples of the services this program provides. Services are ongoing. Bereavement Support Group: A group which meets weekly for discussions and support.
New Mom's Group: An eight-week group for new mothers to connect with other mothers and discuss the daily ups and downs a new baby brings to the family. Meets at the Jewish Center in Princeton.
Adolescent Groups: Multiple-session groups designed for teens and pre-teens to discuss adolescent issues including self-esteem, body image, relationships, families and self-expression. Feelings and experiences are shared in a supportive environment through discussion and age-appropriate activities.
Parenting Groups: Single and multiple-session presentations that address the challenges of parenting. Topics include, but are not limited to, Raising Resilient Children; The Overstressed Child; Body Image and Eating Disorders; Mean Girls; Needs vs. Wants.
Social Skills Groups for Children: Multiple-session groups that address the needs and social concerns of 6-10 year old boys and girls. Through child-centered play we explore ways to build positive peer relationships, reading social cures, and building social self-confidence.
Project Re-Employment:
A 10-hour program for individuals who are seeking re-employment due to "downsizing", or are returning to the workforce after raising children. Networking, Resume Writing, Interviewing Skills and Job Search Techniques.
Speakers:
Our staff is available to work with community businesses, places of worship and youth and adult groups to design and facilitate workshops and single presentations geared to the needs of your members. Fees can be adjusted to fit your organization's budget. SCHOLARSHIPS
Esther Wollin Memorial Scholarship Fund. A $5,000 scholarship awarded to a full time Jewish female student accepted by, or already attending Douglass College. Eligibility is limited to Jewish females raised by their Jewish mother in a single-parent household in the JFCS service area. Application deadline: March 31
Melvin Kushner College Scholarship: awarded annually by the Abams Foundation to a college-bound senior who is also a resident of Princeton-Mercer-Bucks. The award is based on financial need and is in the amount of $1000. Application deadine: May 30
