DESCRIPTION
A voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy and service. The Mercer County Unit is a part of the nationwide American Cancer Society.

General Public Information and Referral - cancer issues
Advocacy - cancer patients and their families
Medical Equipment and Prostheses - wheelchairs, commodes, shower chairs, walkers, wigs, cosmetics
Transportation service - Transport cancer patients to therapy treatments
Cancer support groups
PROGRAMS
Support Groups: Various support programs are available to cancer patients and their families such as the Days Away For Children With Cancer, Reach to Recovery (breast cancer), Ostomy Group, Look Good Feel Better (makeup and cosmetic tips), Road to Recovery (transportation services for patients to treatment sources). Man to Man: A volunteer program for one-year post-treatment prostate cancer survivors who would like to help newly diagnosed patients. Call 609-895-0867, ext. 202.
I Can Cope: A series of education classes for people facing cancer held at local medical centers. Call 609-895-0867, ext. 202 for schedules of classes.
