Have you ever been sitting at a Chinese restaurant and wondered what the Chinese characters on the placemat say? Or, say you are on a luxurious trip to Paris and your waiter only speaks to you in French. Maybe you receive a letter in the mail from your long lost foreign exchange student, written in German. What would you do? Google Translate, can solve all your translation problems. And no worries, this FREE app is compatible for both Android and Apple devices.

This past month I taught a class featuring some of the top apps on the market and Google Translate was the class favorite. The true value of the app became apparent when one of the class members spoke a phrase in Chinese and the words were transformed into Chinese characters on the screen and translated into English.

The Google Translate app allows you to:

• Translate text and speech between more than 60 languages
• Listen to your translations spoken aloud
• Input using your voice, handwriting, and camera
• Save your favorite translations for quick, offline access
• View dictionary results for single words or phrases

This app is great to have on hand even if you do not think you will often use it. The other day I needed the translation of a German poem, so I took a picture, highlighted the text and the app translated it for me in under 30 seconds. So take just a few minutes of your time to download the app for free and discover all of the translation possibilities. Consider attending our next app class on Wednesday, June 12th, Apps for iPads, iPhones & Android Devices. In this session, you’ll learn about apps for organizing, traveling, cooking, and more. Hope to see you there!
