Books on tap
It’s not Dickens, but it is a doozy. J.R. Moehringer’s memoir, “The Tender Bar,” sets the stage for the inaugural meeting of Books on Tap. This new book group led by librarian Kristin Friberg convenes at the Yankee Doodle Tap Room at the Nassau Inn on Tuesday, June 26th at 7 pm.
Moehringer grew up, fatherless, living with his mom in the home of his not-so-warm grandfather. What he found at Dickens, the Manhasset bar where his Uncle Charlie was a bartender and customer, was a community of men who would serve as the role models he was desperately searching for.
“Long before it legally served me, the bar saved me.” Can a bar be a source of salvation? We want to know what you think. You’ll be carded (for your library card) to get $2-$3 selected beer specials and a 10% discount on appetizers.
Books on Tap is part of this year's Between the Covers, adult summer reading program which launches Wednesday, June 20th. No registration is required. For the first round, we are kicking it old school. To supplement your summer reading stash, every two weeks, we will be giving away a tote bag filled with advance readers’ copies of hot new titles, including some signed by your favorite authors! Earn a chance to win by submitting your book reviews, in person at the Welcome Desk, or by emailing them to: firstname.lastname@example.org. Reviews will be prominently featured on our first floor display table. Everyone who submits reviews will be entered into the final drawing to win the grand prize, a Kindle Fire.
